A Menu of Possible Commitments

The Youth Political and Civic Engagement Cohort, better known as the Youth Democracy Cohort, is one of the platforms that was launched as part of the Year of Action of the 2021 Summit for Democracy. The Cohorts bring together governments, civil society and the private sector to advance good governance and democratic renewal around the world.

The Youth Democracy Cohort of the Summit for Democracy is an inclusive platform to take meaningful action toward implementing Summit for Democracy commitments on youth political and civic engagement through resources, expertise, research, activities, and achievements.

Our cohort is composed of 9 co-leading organisations, joined by more than 40 other member organisations from around the world. The aim of our cohort is to promote youth political and civic engagement globally.

How do we aim to engage youth?

  • Promoting understanding of democratic principles and the proven link between democracy and long-term stability and prosperity among youth;
  • Supporting diversity and inclusion within youth groups and in the advocacy of youth issues;
  • Bringing support to young people and youth organisations in their efforts to assess democratic institutions and processes and also advise on possible reforms;
  • Empowering young people, youth organisations and youth movements in re-imagining a more robust, inclusive, effective, transparent, accountable and equitable form of democracy.

Do you want to join the Youth Democracy Cohort ?

Civil society organisations, youth organisations and government institutions working at the intersection of youth engagement and democracy support are eligible to join.
Together let’s push youth participation to the next level!
