Mary Marjorie P. Martin-Chan is a lawyer and a public servant. Seeing that serving the community would maximise her leadership potential, Atty. Marj was elected as City Councilor in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over her five-year tenure on the Tuguegarao City Council, she has sponsored and authored significant ordinances and resolutions including Gender, Empowerment, Single Parents, and Youth and Family relations. Mary Marjorie is affiliated with the Angat Bayi Women Empowerment Program and the JRMF Young Leaders for Good Governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recognised for her achievements, she was selected by different institutions to represent the Philippines in international fellowships, scholarships, and conferences abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to her legislative duties, she also serves in different organisations. Currently, she is the President of the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao (2022-2024) and the National Vice President of the Luzon Island of the National Movement of Young Legislators (2022-2025). Outside of the political sphere, she serves as an advocacy consultant for the National Prosecution Development Team of the International Justice Mission Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Youth Political Participation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNational youth councils should continue to be strengthened and improved through legislative measures, meaning they should be elected into positions or appointed into positions because of capabilities, not because of any restriction as to age or financial situation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The WYDE Civic Engagement<\/strong> Network of Young Decision-Makers<\/a><\/strong> unites young leaders under 36 years old who are active in politics and decision-making roles, aiming to enhance youth political participation. Members, hailing from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean, will collaborate with peers and Club de Madrid Members to shape global agendas through Policy Labs, fostering informed collective action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The WYDE Civic Engagement project <\/strong>is a component of the Women and Youth in Democracy Initiative (WYDE) by the European Commission. The project aims to empower youth voices, foster international cooperation, and address the gaps in evidence on youth political engagement. <\/strong>More info on the project can be found on EPD’s website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n
