Structure & Ambitions
The Youth Democracy Cohort (YDC) is managed by a co-leadership group comprising organisations from both civil society and public institutions. This coalition includes the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), AfricTivistes, EDYN, International IDEA, the European Commission, Costa Rica’s Ministry of Culture and Youth and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Nepal’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Youth Council (NYC), the National Planning Commission (NPC), and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE). Together, these organisations play a crucial role in promoting youth political participation and shaping the YDC into a leading force in this field.



AMBITIONS of the YDC
- Advocate for youth political and civic engagement locally and globally, including through the identification of barriers to participation and the push for concrete commitments made by governments;
- Promote diversity and inclusion within youth organisations and youth-led programmes;;
- Support young people and youth organisations in researching democratic institutions and in advising on possible reforms;
- Facilitate the collaboration between youth organisations, young people, and public institutions.
- Amplify the voices and work of marginalised communities to regional and global audiences;
- Empower young people to envision and advocate for a more inclusive, transparent and local form of democracy;
- Ensure intergenerational justice, fostering dialogue and collaboration to ensure the voices and experiences of all age groups are heard.
