[WEBINAR] Knowledge Sharing: How much does it cost to run for Office?

1 mai 2026 - 14:00

Join the Youth Democracy Cohort together with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) for an insightful new webinar! Learn about the real costs of running for office incurred by prospective candidates. The session will bring to light the financial challenges faced by prospective candidates when seeking political office, focusing particularly on the financial barriers that impact youth, women, and other underrepresented groups.

In this webinar, WFD associate Jamie Hitchen,  and Cost of Politics report authors for Liberia (Aaron Weah) and Democratic Republic of Congo (Camille Forite) will discuss their research findings, how financial barriers restrict access to political spaces in Liberia and the DRC, and what this means for democracy.

Following this, participants will have a chance to exchange in breakout groups to share common challenges and unique perspectives on the costs of running for office in their countries. This webinar aims to deepen participants’ understanding of the hidden but real costs of seeking political office with the hope of fostering a vision for a more inclusive democracy.
