The Global Youth Participation Index (GYPI) was developed to provide a comprehensive, data-driven understanding of how young people engage in public life across the world. By measuring participation across 141 countries and multiple dimensions, the Index highlights both progress and persistent barriers to youth inclusion. Building on these global findings, the GYPI Spotlight series aims to go one step further.
These analytical pieces are designed to deepen the insights generated by the Index by exploring specific regions, themes, and country contexts in greater detail. By combining quantitative data with qualitative analysis, the spotlights help unpack the trends behind the rankings, shedding light on the structural factors, lived experiences, and political dynamics that shape youth participation.
Produced within the framework of the GYPI research initiative, the series contributes to a broader effort to strengthen evidence-based advocacy, support policy discussions, and amplify informed debates on youth participation worldwide. Through these spotlights, the GYPI moves from data to dialogue, bridging numbers with narratives to better understand how young people influence, challenge, and reshape democratic life.
