The project RENFORCE for the promotion of digital rights in Mauritania contributes to the promotion of people’s digital rights vis-à-vis public authorities, and aims to raise awareness among local, regional and national governance players on issues such as the protection of people’s private data, freedom of expression, and the application and popularisation of digital laws in Mauritania.
Activities
- Targeting and mobilising influential and governance players with an interest in digital rights through a call for contributions.
- Baseline study on the state of digital rights and the existing policy framework to analyse stakeholders’ practices, needs and perceptions in order to provide a factual basis to guide future advocacy actions.
- Training session for influential and governance players on digital rights issues in Mauritania to improve their technical skills and strengthen their commitment to promoting digital rights.
- Advocacy meetings with elected representatives on young people’s digital rights to discuss priorities, raise awareness among decision-makers and co-construct strategies for integrating digital rights into public policy.
- Organisation of a national forum bringing together elected representatives, CSOs, young leaders and digital experts to debate issues relating to digital rights and co-construct policy recommendations promoting their integration into national and local public policies.
Expected results

Setting up an operational national multi-stakeholder network, bringing together elected representatives, CSOs and young leaders and facilitating dialogue and consultation on digital policies, while constituting a sustainable collaborative platform for future advocacy and awareness-raising initiatives.

Production and validation of a comprehensive reference report including a precise diagnosis of the situation of young people’s digital rights. It will serve as a working basis for advocacy actors, guide the formulation of policy recommendations and will be disseminated to encourage dialogue around digital rights in Mauritania.

Consolidate key actors’ knowledge and strengthen the promotion and implementation of digital rights commitments.

Production of a report on meetings with elected representatives, including commitments made and recommendations validated. These exchanges will lead to the adoption of concrete measures to protect and promote the digital rights of young people, reinforcing their active participation in the definition and implementation of public policies.

Adoption of a national declaration on the digital rights of young people, and development of a multi-stakeholder action plan defining priorities, commitments and monitoring mechanisms for better integration of digital rights into public policies in Mauritania.
