[WEBINAR]  Young leaders shaping the present

20 February 2024 - 14:00

In an era where the voice of the Youth reverberates louder than ever, the adage “Nothing about us without us” resonates profoundly. With more than 50% of the global population composed of young individuals, their inclusion in decision-making processes is not just a matter of fairness but a necessity for a vibrant and inclusive democracy.

However, despite their numerical strength, the Youth often find themselves marginalised from the corridors of power. But this narrative is slowly changing, thanks to the tireless efforts of youth-led organisations and initiatives aimed at empowering young leaders in politics the Youth Democracy Cohort has the privilege to work with.

On February 20, the Youth Democracy Cohort will host”Young leaders shaping the present,” where they will spotlight the remarkable journey of Augusta Nnadi, a trailblazing figure in Nigerian politics. At the age of 24, Augusta defied the odds to become the Special Assistant to the Governor on Investments in Anambra State, Nigeria. Her story is not just one of personal achievement but a testament to the potential of young leaders to drive meaningful change at the highest levels of government. Learn more about Augusta here

But empowerment goes beyond mere representation; it requires providing young people with the necessary tools and opportunities to participate actively in shaping their countries’ futures. This is where Suvechchha Chapagain will discuss Accountability Lab‘s initiatives, empowering youth to drive change in Nepal. Their fellowship program serves as a blueprint for engaging young people in politics by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to navigate the complexities of governance and advocacy. By investing in the next generation of leaders, Accountability Lab Nepal is sowing the seeds for a more accountable and inclusive democracy.

These stories exemplify the transformative power of Youth leadership in politics. They underscore the importance of creating platforms for young people to not only voice their concerns but also to drive meaningful change in their communities and countries. As we look towards the future, let us heed the call to ensure that young leaders have a seat at the decision-makers’ table, for their perspectives and contributions are essential in shaping a more just, equitable, and prosperous world for all.
