YDC Working Groups: Building Bridges Across Regions

The Youth Democracy Cohort is excited to launch its first Working Groups, designed to bring our member organisations closer together and create a more direct and tailored experience within our platform. Our goal? Providing more spaces for members to connect about the themes and allies that matter the most to them, without neglecting the global nature of the Cohort.

What are the YDC Working Groups?

The first four Working Groups are region-specific groups managed by dedicated Community Managers (CMs) and composed of member organisations. These spaces provide members with the opportunity to engage directly with peers and leaders from their regions, enhancing their advocacy efforts and building an organic sense of community.

By joining these communities, members and/or YDC supporters will:

  • Be the first to know about YDC’s activities, events, and funding opportunities related to their regions.
  • Contribute to concrete regional advocacy efforts.
  • Connect informally with others who share their commitment to advancing youth political participation.

While the initial Working Groups are centred around region, the YDC team envisions the creation of more groups, particularly around themes such as gender, digital rights and shrinking civic space. If any member is interested in leading such a Working Group, please get in touch.

Meet the Community Managers

Each geographical area is led by experienced Community Managers (CM), who play a vital role in creating and maintaining these communities:

  • Africa and MENA: Oliver and Shirley from Youth Café.
  • Afrique (Francophone): Alpha from Ouvrir les Horizons.
  • Americas: Alejandra and Olga from Alma Cívica.
  • Asia-Pacific: Jiwan from Blind Youth Association Nepal.

These organisations, supported by YDC through advocacy grants in the past, bring a wealth of experience and insight to their roles. They are instrumental in shaping the success of the Working Groups.  By leveraging their expertise and networks, the CMs ensure these communities remain dynamic, inclusive, and impactful.

Join the YDC WhatsApp Community

Joining the YDC WhatsApp Community means becoming part of a global movement for youth political participation. The creation of the WhatsApp Community is part of an effort to create more direct and instant experience for members. Its purpose is to exchange resources, forge partnerships, and hear about opportunities in your region and beyond.

The WhatsApp Community has a global announcement channel that serves to communicate general news about the YDC. Then, you can join the region-specific groups depending on your interest. To learn more about the YDC WhatsApp Communities and how to join, click on the image below.
